    Can plaquenil cause vertigo

I have been on it since April 06, but have mainly only been taking 200 mg a day instead of the 400 mg that was prescribed. The first Rheumy I saw said he was leaning towards diagnosing me with lupus (based on labs and symptoms over last few years), and put me on it to see if it helped.

I take plaquenil, which is an antimalarial drug that has shown some improvements in symptoms but I have only been taking it for a little over 3 months and it is well documented that most folks do not show improvements until closer to the 6 month range. Potential side effects of anti-malarial drugs include Skin rashes and pigment change. Atabrine, specifically, can cause yellow pigmentation of skin. Sometimes Plaquenil can also deposit in the tissues of the body and cause the skin to take on a greenish tone. Dry skin. Loss of appetite. Abdominal bloating. Upset stomach. Contact your doctor if you experience these side effects and they are severe or bothersome. Your pharmacist may be able to advise you on managing side effects. diarrhea. dizziness. hair loss. headache. increased skin sensitivity to sunlight. loss of appetite.

I finally decided to just start it, and wow did I notice a difference in how I felt.. I was having trouble holding back tears when I saw the Rheum. Even though I was miserable, and SO tired and sore every day, I was hesitant to start it, since I've always had a sensitive nervous system when it comes to medication (my mother is the same way).

It is most likely, however, that lupus vertigo is brought about by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs. These drugs occasionally cause dizziness and are often used in the treatment of lupus. In any case it is wise to talk to your doctor if you are experiencing vertigo and lupus. Plaquenil is the brand name of hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to prevent or treat malaria. Plaquenil can cause serious side effects when used in high doses for chronic diseases such as RA over the long term. In rare cases, Plaquenil can cause cardiomyopathy, a chronic disease of the heart muscle. If you're taking Plaquenil for an autoimmune condition, your symptoms should begin to improve after a few.

Methotrexate and plaquenil - @Kristinsaba1988 - Scleroderma. Oct 09, 2015 I was on both medis for 15 years for mixed connective disease. I recently stopped methotrexate due to lungs involvement, my pulmonologist decided to put me on cellcept.i had no majors side effects but a metal taste when I first started. Make sure you have a chest X-ray yearly and periodic labs work. Good luck.
