    Hydroxychloroquine vs malarone

Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

Feb 19, 2020 Dosage for Plaquenil. The adult dose of Plaquenil to suppress malaria is 400 mg on the same day each week. The pediatric weekly suppressive dosage is 5 mg/kg of body weight. The adult dose of Plaquenil to treat an acute attack of malaria is an initial dose of 800 mg followed by 400 mg in six to eight hours and 400 mg for two more days. Malarone is generally considered the most effective malaria prevention medicine and has very minimal side effects. It's also the most expensive. Doxycycline is a cheaper alternative with a relatively low number of side effects. If you decide to take an anti-malrial pill and money isn't an issue I'd suggest Malarone. The study is based on atovaquone; proguanil hydrochloride and hydroxychloroquine sulfate the active ingredients of Malarone and Hydroxychloroquine sulfate, respectively, and Malarone and Hydroxychloroquine sulfate the brand names. Other drugs that have the same active ingredients e.g. generic drugs are not considered.

Taking hydroxychloroquine long-term or at high doses may cause irreversible damage to the retina of your eye. Hydroxychloroquine is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus.

We went to a travel clinic and they said either is effective. Even with the generic brand available, Malarone is still $180 compared to $10 for Doxy.

Plaquenil - how long for side effects to subside? So, I've read the half-life is from 30-60 days. That is one of the reasons I didn't want to take it - that's a long time to stick around. I did read hair loss, photosensitivity, itching area all potential side effects of Plaquenil, so hopefully those will subside soon as the med levels drop.
