    Prednisone and plaquenil lupus

Mom has Lupus like me, but she was diagnosed when she was 40 yrs old and now she is 58. She has and enlarged heart, diabetes, had a stroke, and failing kidneys.

It is hard to draw a deep breath and I’ve had a lot of neck pain with the lung issues. He said that is normal for the pain to radiate to the neck. It should go away with the prednisone I have found that to be true. Plaquenil probably won’t protect you from getting Covid-19, but it should make it less dangerous and shorten the lifespan. Prescribed for Lyme Disease - Arthritis, Dermatomyositis, Malaria Prevention, Malaria, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. May also be prescribed off label for Sjogren's Syndrome. Prednisone effectively controls inflammation and an overactive immune system but may not be suitable for everybody. Re Plaquenil - Better Than Prednisone? Have been taking Plaquenil for over a year now and it has definitely made a huge difference in my quality of life. When I first went to my Rhuemy and found out what was wrong, I was so sick I could barely function with fatigue, joint and muscle aches just to name a few.

Plaquenil is an anti-malarial that slows the progression of the disease. This is a very popular and normal combination, I'd say that at least 75% of the lupus forum members have been on it!

  4. Prednisone is the most commonly prescribed steroid for lupus. Prednisolone and methylprednisolone Medrol® are similar to prednisone. Some physicians prefer to prescribe these if you have liver problems. Most people take steroids in pill form. But, creams or gels applied to the skin are often used for cutaneous skin lupus.

Yes, if the plaquenil controls your Lupus flares, it is best to not use the prednisone. I hope you can get off of it completely, or at least take a small maintenance dose. Take it very slow. Prednisone Side Effects Adrenal insufficiency Adrenal gland a gland on top of the kidney It makes prednisone-like steroids These are very important for living Makes more steroids during times of stress and infection Regular prednisone use causes the gland to stop making its own steroids I understand this drug is very effective in preventing organ damage and my doctors made me aware of this. I am still a Prednisone refuser. I take Plaquenil, Endep, Pariet, Tramadol and Celebrex to stabilise my Lupus and give pain relief and Atenolol for my heart. I see my rheumatologist every 3 to 4 months and my GP in between times.

Is Plaquenil Necessary? - I, too, have a connective tissue disorder, which is an autoimmune disease I was diagnosed with JRA, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, when I was pretty young. Plaquenil was a med that I took a while a go, since it's considered fairly safe in the world of RA meds.
