    Weaning off plaquenil

I've been on plaquenil for 6 months for suspected Sjogren's syndrome (I don't have antibodies for Sjorgren's or Lupus but I do have Hashimoto's and have all the symptoms for Sjorgren's so the rheumatologist suggested a trial of plaquenil). Basically I've been on the drug since January and saw the rheumatologist on Wednesday to see how things are going.

Happily, going off plaquenil quelled the worst of my psoriasis, so the overall trade-off was eventually worth it for me. It wasn't very clear from your post whether it was the primary care doctor or the rheumatologist who wants him to decrease the plaquenil. Been on Plaquenil only for ten years for sarcoidosis. Once in awhile I also had to have a burst of prednisone. I have been weaning off since my sarcoidosis has been stable for eight years. I went from 400 mg. Daily to 200 daily to 200 every other day over the course of six months. I stopped it about 10 days ago and I feel like I’m 90 years old. One of our community members who is taking the DMARD, Placquenil, asked for advice on stopping her adjunctive steroid treatment. Community question Do you have any advice on weaning off of prednisone? I started Placquenil treatment 7 weeks ago, and my doctor wants me to stop taking prednisone.

I do think it's helped with fatigue and muscle pain but it's hard for me to compare to Xmas as when the improvement is so gradual I think it's really hard to notice on a gradual basis. I *think* I'm improving but it's been a gradual process and I said to him that it's quite hard to tell how much of an improvement I'm feeling.

It's ok to stop plaquenil without weaning, but I do recommend that if you feel you can wait til Monday, wait, and talk with your rheumy then. I felt that plaquenil wasn't helping, and was causing digestive problems for me, so with my dr. ok, I went off it. After two weeks off, I discovered it had been doing some good on the joint and muscle pain. So she is having me start sulfasalazine---- do any of you take this and even better do any of you take this along with plaquenil and/or prednisone because until I can wean myself off the awful prednisone I will be taking all three medicines. Proper Use. Drug information provided by IBM Micromedex Take this medicine only as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered.

In these experiments, we tested the hypothesis that chloroquine, a lysosomotropic agent which modifies protein and lipid metabolism by hepatocyte lysosomes, would alter the biliary excretion of lipids and lysosomal enzymes. We treated male rats for 5 days with intraperitoneal chloroquine 50 mg/kg body wt, n = 9 or saline n = 8 and collected bile for 6 h via bile fistulas; rats were then.
